Markus Beckedahl is co-founder of newthinking communications, an agency for open-source strategies and digital culture in Berlin. He has been blogging for netzpolitik.org since 2002 and has been organizing re:publica since 2007 – an annual conference that examines blogs, social media and digital society. re:publica is one of the largest Internet conferences in Europe. Beckedahl is also part of the German Bundestag’s committee of inquiry for “Internet and digital society” and a member of the media committee for the Berlin-Brandenburg broadcasting corporation. He is also a member of the German UNESCO Commission. As the public-project-lead at Creative Commons Germany, he is responsible for the PR work for licenses and is the chairman of the Digital Society association, which deals with civil rights in the digital age.
