Recent years have seen both important breakthroughs and significant setbacks in the global struggle for the rights of LGBT people – from draconian anti-gay laws in some parts of the world to increasing sensationalism and stigmatization of LGBT individuals in others.

What are the roles and responsibilities that media have in upholding our fundamental human right to be born free and equal? What are the risks and opportunities of shaping public opinion around LGBT issues in the era of globalized media? Will greater diversity in the newsrooms lead to better coverage of LGBT and other minority issues in mainstream media?
