DW wins Berliner Inklusionspreis for 'Inclusive Employment'

State Secretary for Social Affairs Aziz Bozkurt and Alexander Straßmeir, President of the State Office for Health & Social Affairs, honored DW's Berlin office with the Berliner Inklusionspreis for "Inclusive Employment".

In 2022, DW's Berlin office was honored in the category of "Inclusive Training." The Berliner Inklusionspreis, presented annually, recognizes employers in Berlin who set exemplary standards in training or employing individuals with severe disabilities. The state award is accompanied by a €10,000 prize.

Honoring inclusion at special ceremony

The award ceremony at the Auditorium Friedrichstrasse in Berlin brought together 13 DW employees and around 150 guests from politics, business and society.

Peter Limbourg, DW Director General: "As a diverse public broadcaster, we have a responsibility to lead by example. We are grateful and delighted to receive this important award. My heartfelt thanks go to everyone at DW who works tirelessly to advance inclusion."

Building on its comprehensive diversity strategy, DW is committed to further strengthening support for individuals with disabilities in 2024 and 2025.

Kerstin Nitz, DW Representative of People with Disabilities in Berlin, highlighted key initiatives: "Our inclusion agreement, established in 2021, has been a vital tool for driving meaningful change. Flexible work agreements are another cornerstone, helping us ensure accessibility and participation for employees with disabilities in the workplace."

A holistic approach to diversity management

As Germany's international broadcaster, DW follows a holistic and intersectional diversity strategy centered on three key pillars: People, Processes, and Products. The People pillar highlights the diversity of DW's workforce, with over 4,000 employees from more than 140 nations working in 32 broadcast languages. Processes focus on fostering an inclusive corporate culture where respect, belonging, and shared responsibility drive creativity and innovation. Productsreflect DW's dedication to creating content that mirrors the diversity of its global audience.
