1990-2000s – Land seizures

Hundreds of previously white-owned farms are seized and given to war veterans and squatters. Food production collapses and inflation explodes.

During the colonial era, much of the best land in the then Rhodesia was reserved for white people.

In 1980, 5,600 white farmers owned 70-percent of the country's land, this included cattle and game ranches and some vast, often foreign-owned, estates.

A 1992 Land Acquisition Act was passed to allow government purchases of white-settler owned land to be redistributed to black Africans.
