A new landmark for Paris

The Paris city council has given the go-ahead for a 180-meter glass pyramid-shaped skyscraper in Paris’s Parc des Expositions. It will rise above the skyline along with the Eiffel Tower and the Tour Montparnasse.

The Tour Triangle is to go up near Porte de Versailles in the southwestern part of the French capital and is scheduled for completion in 2020. The Sky Bar at the top promises an impressive view of the city and the Eiffel Tower. Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo described the project as a strong symbol of the city’s attractiveness. Construction could begin as early as 2017.

The first design submitted by the Swiss architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron was rejected in November 2014. The reworked concept has reduced office space to 70,000 square meters. It foresees a hotel, a restaurant and a cultural center. It will accommodate an estimated 5000 jobs. The projected 500-million-Euro construction costs are to be carried by private investors.

The city center of Paris hosts relatively few skyscraper-sized buildings. The tallest at 301 meters is still the Eiffel Tower, followed by the 210-meter Tour Montparnasse.
