Belgium reveals Paris attacker safehouses
January 13, 2016On Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Belgian public prosecutor's office said three homes – two apartments and a house – had been used by the suspects in the Paris attacks.
"The investigators were able to identify three premises that have been used by the conspiring perpetrators of the attacks of 13th November 2015," Eric Van Der Sypt told reporters.
One apartment was in the city of Charleroi, another was in the Schaerbeek district of Brussels, and the house was in the small village of Auvelais near the border with France.
The Schaerbeek apartment was identified last week by prosecutors as a possible site where explosive devices used in the Paris attacks were made.
The safehouses were identified by fingerprints left by suspects, including those of the suspected ringleader, Abdelhamid Abaaoud, who was killed in a police raid five days after the Paris attacks.
Searches of the apartments were conducted by police in December, but the connection to the Paris suspects is only now being confirmed.
