Best of Bundesliga: Aubameyang battles Lewandowski

Best bits:

- Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Robert Lewandowski's ding-dong battle for the Golden Boot has already started. Both players have six goals in four games in all competitions, but the Pole leads the Bundesliga battle three to two.

- RB Leipzig's Bruma came off the bench to score a sensational on-the-turn volley to seal a comprehensive win against Freiburg. "One day people should say I'm the best in the world," he told "Bild" before the new season. On this day, his goal will certainly be remembered that way.

- Holger Badstuber scored his first goal in nearly eight years on his debut for his new club Stuttgart. The former Bayern man will have got a cheer from most fans around the country after overcoming multiple ligament and tendon tears to return to the pitch.

- Eurosport in Germany had an embarrassing weekend after their users only got an error message on Friday night for Cologne's game against Hamburg. Eurosport have refunded their customers a 10 euro voucher, but will hope that for the rest of the season (Eurosport have 45 games exclusively) there are no more problems.

- HSV's Dennis Diekmeier has set a Bundesliga record for the most games without a goal. After Hamburg's win against Cologne, Diekmeier stood alone as the record holder for 183 games without a goal. "I think I got more WhatsApp messages today because of my goal record than us being top of the table,” he said after the game.

- Mainz have also set an unwanted record. After 1-0 defeats to both Hannover and Stuttgart, they became the first ever Bundesliga team to lose both of their opening games against promoted sides. 

- Bibiana Steinhaus had another fine afternoon of refereeing as she kept an ill-tempered affair in the second-division game between Bochum and Dresden from boiling over. According to Steinhaus, she knows when her first game in the Bundesliga will be but she's just keeping it a secret.

Transfer news:

- Confusion occured before Dortmund's home win against Hertha when Peter Bosz said: "We'll have to wait and see if everything goes ahead." Bosz was talking about Ousmane Dembele's departure, but the answer came to a question about potential BVB interest in Danish talent Kasper Dolberg.

- Dortmund have found a Dembele replacement, say football website kicker. Ukraine attacker Andriy Yarmolenko is the man supposedly on the verge of signing a deal at BVB, which would be third time lucky for the 27-year-old after he came close to joining the Bundesliga club back in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

- Leverkusen are closing in on River Plate striker Lucas Alario (24) for around 19 million euros, say kicker.

- Erik Durm is staying in Dortmund after returning from Stuttgart after his medical. Local paper "Ruhr Nachrichten" report that sporting director Michael Zorc said he expects "Erik to stay with us." It seems Durm's injury history put Stuttgart off a permanent offer so they made a loan offer instead, but BVB weren't happy and have decided to keep him.

- Freiburg have signed a new right winger. Frenchman Yoric Ravet (27) has joined from Young Boys Bern. Reported fee is around 4.5 million euros and the hope is that Ravet goes some way to replacing the recently departed Maximilian Philipp and Vincenzo Grifo.

- Former Schalke captain Benedikt Höwedes was again left on the bench for his side's 1-0 defeat to Hannover. Sporting director Christian Heidel confirmed on Friday that there had been contact with Juventus and that the central defender had expressed an interest in joining the Italian champions. 

- Despite injuries to Nicolai Müller and Aaron Hunt, Hamburg chairman Heribert Bruchhagen doesn't envisage bringing in any new faces. Quite the opposite. "Our squad is very big," he said. "I don't want to rule anything out. We'd like to sell one or two players. We're in talks."

Bizarre Bundesliga:

- Early in the second half between Cologne and Hamburg and Friday night, referee Dr. Felix Brych pulled up injured and had to helped off the field by Cologne captain Matthias Lehmann. When replacement ref Sören Starks finally got play back underway after a 13-minute delay, his first decision was to send off Hamburg's Mergim Mavraj for a second bookable offence. Starks thus became the first ever substitute referee in Bundesliga history to dismiss a player.

- Shortly after Cologne pulled a goal back against Hamburg, HSV defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos clutched his chest, cried out and fell to the floor with no one around him. The dive was nothing short of embarrassing. Substitute referee Starks hadn't seen it but the VAR did and Starks rightly booked Papadopoulos. Hamburg head coach Markus Gisdol said afterwards it was "fundamentally not what we want to see." We agree.
