Foxconn fracas
September 24, 2012According to Foxconn, which is based in Taiwan, a "personal dispute between several employees" caused the fight to break out overnight on Monday. Around 40 people were left injured at the facility, which is located in northern China.
China's official Xinhua news agency said around 5,000 police officers were sent in to get the situation under control. Several arrests were made, Foxconn said in a statement.
The incident occurred in a privately-owned housing facility associated with the plant, which employs a total of 79,000 people.
Foxconn said the fight appeared "not to have been work-related," and that it was working with local authorities on the investigation.
The company manufactures computer components and assembles products for Apple, Sony, and Nokia. Across China, Foxconn employs around a million people.
The plant is expected to reopen on Tuesday.
