Bundesliga Matchday 2: Top five talking points

1. International inconvenience

After a thrilling open weekend, the Bundesliga took its time to deliver its usual dose of excitement. For the first 50 minutes, Saturday's action was lethargic. Build-up play was stilted, goal chances were at a premium and draws seemed to be the order of the day. Just when the action looked the dullest, the Bundesliga delivered. Seven goals flew in across the action in the final 10 minutes. In that haul was Naby Keita breaking Dortmund hearts, Freiburg turning their game around and Darmstadt's Sandro Sirigu scoring the best unintentional goal of the weekend. Even when it isn't obvious, there's always a reason to watch the Bundesliga.

2. Lively Leipzig

Though Leipzig sealed their first Bundesliga victory with a late goal, their intent to win was there long before. For all of the stats in Dortmund's favor, Leipzig truly deserved to win the game. Their well-oiled machine sneaked a draw on Matchday 1 against Hoffenheim, and this weekend they went one better by picking up three points late on. Ralph Hasenhüttl took the gamble and sensed the chance to win, and his team rewarded his courage. Oliver Burke even upstaged BVB's Mario Götze in the battle of the new-signings. In front of an excited home crowd, Leizpig showed that, as much as the league may hate them, their football has a place in the Bundesliga.

3. Captain fantastic

Vedad Ibisevic has often been criticized for being a difficult character, and many were surprised when Hertha Berlin swooped in for him last season. Since then though, the 32-year-old forward has let his performances do all the talking. His 10 goals and four assists helped Hertha reach a Europa League playoff spot and proved the importance of a goalscorer. A wild character or not, Ibisevic has continued his form this season and his club even handed him the captaincy. Perhaps in the latter stages of his career the Bosnian is turning over a new leaf, or maybe it's just living in the capital that has calmed him down. Either way, Hertha are happy.

4. Pohjanpower beats Bobby dazzler

Two games, two goals. Bobby Wood is loving life in the top flight and Hamburg are grateful they have found someone else to score the goals for them. Despite all the hysteria the Hawaiian is creating back home, he wasn't the man who grabbed the headlines in Leverkusen. In a thrilling and totally unexpected finish, attacker Joel Pohjanpalo scored a hat trick to turn defeat into victory. The 21-year-old has not been a priority in Leverkusen's squad plans, but he delivered a career best 18-minute cameo to save Roger Schmidt (and Bernd Leno). His second was the best of the three, and if the Finn keeps this up, Leverkusen will have unearthed a real gem.

5. Fantastic Freiburg

Who hasn't missed Christian Streich in the Bundesliga? Streich was back to his best on the sideline as Freiburg's late flurry was as spectacular as their stadium in the Saturday sunshine. Statistically, Freiburg were always going to win this one - they haven't lost their last nine at home against Gladbach - but given the dominant start Gladbach have enjoyed to their season, this is still a shock result. Running seven kilometers (4.3 miles) more than their opponents, taking more shots and pivotally scoring more goals proved that Freiburg not only deserved to win, but that they belong in the Bundesliga.
