Mia san Meister!
Bayern Munich capped off their season in style with a 4-1 win over SC Freiburg as Philipp Lahm and Xabi Alonso said goodbye. The match itself was merely a precursor to the title celebration, as Lahm lifted his eighth, and Bayern's 27th, German league title. As for Freiburg, Christian Streich's newly-promoted outfit finished 7th and will enter the Europa League should Borussia Dortmund win the cup.
HSV - still in the Bundesliga!
Hamburg rescued themselves in the only way they know how - with a dramatic, late goal followed by an explosion of emotion. Trailing 0-1 to direct rivals Wolfsburg, the Bundesliga dinosaur was on the brink of a third relegation playoff in four years. But Filip Kostic's equalizer and Luca Waldschmidt's late winner sparked ecstacy and relief in the Volksparkstadion.
"One day! One day it will happen!"
That's what the Cologne fans have been singing all season. "One day, we'll travel to Milan to watch FC!" After 25 years, Cologne are back in Europe, sealing automatic qualification for the Europa League group stages with a 2-0 win over Mainz. Goals from local hero Jonas Hector and Yuya Osako sparked elation in the carneval city, where fans have suffered with their club for over two decades.
Dortmund secure automatic Champions League qualification
High-profile departures, exciting new signings, goals galore, injuries, a closed stand, a terrorist attack and strife with the manager - it was only right that Borussia Dortmund's tumultuous season ended with a rollercoaster 4-3 win over Werder Bremen. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang beat Robert Lewandowski to the Bundesliga golden boot, with 31 goals to 30. Next stop - the cup final in Berlin.
Hoffenheim into Champions League qualification
Hoffenheim needed to win and exceed the margin of Dortmund's victory by five goals to qualify directly for the Champions league, but in the end were held to a goalless draw by Augsburg. Nevertheless, fourth place still represents an incredibly impressive season for Julian Nagelsmann's side. The point was enough to save Augsburg from the relegation play-off.
Frankfurt fight back
2-0 up just before the hour mark thanks to goals from Marcel Sabitzer and Yussuf Poulsen, controversial newcomers RB Leipzig looked set to cap off a successful first Bundesliga season with a comfortable win against Frankfurt. But despite a disappointing second half of the season, Niko Kovac's men fought back, goals from Vallejo and Blum securing a 2-2 draw.
Six of the best for Leverkusen
For a club whose ambition was to establish themselves among the Bundesliga's elite this season, Bayer Leverkusen have fallen considerably short. In Berlin though, Leverkusen's band of talented individuals showed what they are capable of, brushing aside a domestically-strong Hertha Berlin 6-2. Hertha finish 6th and will again enter the 3rd Europa League qualifying round.
All square in Gladbach
For Borussia Mönchengladbach to have had any hope of scraping into Europe, they needed bitter rivals Cologne to lose - or at least draw, in which case an 11-goal victory over relegated Darmstadt would have been required. In the end, the Foals were held to a 2-2 draw as the Lillies twice came from behind to clinch another highly respectable result and go down with their heads held high.
Schalke wrap up disappointing season
It's been a long season for Schalke under new management duo Markus Weinzierl and Christian Heidel in which a talented squad has fallen short of expectations - especially domestically. An impressive run to the quarterfinal of the Europa League stirred memories of the famous 1997 "Eurofighters" but in the end, the Schalke fans' banner said it all: "We thank for team for following us this season."
