Werder Bremen 0-2 Gladbach
Werder Bremen's scoring troubles continued as Gladbach sealed a comfortable victory in the final game of Matchday 8. Werder Bremen's poor first-half display was punished as a powerful header from Jannik Vestergaard and some solo magic from Lars Stindl left Gladbach 2-0 ahead. Jiri Pavlenka's saves kept Werder in with a chance in the second half, but they never added to their three league goals.
Bayer Leverkusen 2-2 VfL Wolfsburg
Wolfsburg twice came from behind in Leverkusen to earn a point which will please them more than their hosts. Lars Bender shot through a crowded penalty area to give Leverkusen a deserved first-half lead before Divock Origi leveled just before half-time. Lucas Alario's second goal in three games restored Leverkusen's lead but Jakub Blaszczykowski equalized again for the visitors.
Borussia Dortmund 2-3 RB Leipzig
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang opened the scoring after stripping the ball from Stefan Ilsanker, but Marcel Sabitzer and Yussuf Poulsen (pictured) scored to give Leipzig the halftime lead. Sokratis saw red for fouling Jean-Kevin Augustin for a penalty, one Augustin converted. Ilsanker was sent off 10 minutes later with a second yellow. Aubameyang's penalty wasn't enough to energize BVB towards a win.
Bayern Munich 5-0 Freiburg
Jupp Heynckes' fourth spell in charge of Bayern Munich couldn't have got off to a more comfortable start — although things could have been different had Liverpool loanee Ryan Kent put Freiburg ahead with a great chance in the second minute. But he didn't and Bayern ran out 5-0 winners thanks to a Schuster own-goal plus strikes from Coman, Thiago, Lewandowski and Kimmich.
Hertha Berlin 0-2 Schalke
An uneventful first half in Berlin took a dramatic turn just before the half-time whistle, when Hertha's Genki Haraguchi was shown a straight red for a sliding tackle on Guido Burgstaller. With a man extra, the visitors increased the pressure and were rewarded when Leon Goretzka put them ahead from the spot. Burgstaller doubled the lead late on to give Schalke their first win in four games.
Hoffenheim 2-2 Augsburg
A dreary game in Sinsheim burst into life in the second half. Benjamin Hübner climbed above even Sandro Wagner to nod home the opener but Hoffenheim were wasteful and were punished when Michael Gregoritsch drew Augsburg level. Mark Uth fired home what looked a late winner for Julian Nagelsmann's side but Augsburg fought back again, Kevin Vogt directing the ball into his own net in the last minute.
Hannover 1-2 Eintracht Frankfurt
It was the Frankfurt supporters who were making all the noise as Hannover fans continued their atmosphere boycott in protest at Martin Kind's takeover of their club — and they got even louder when Sebastian Haller put them ahead with a clever chip after 10 minutes. Hannover equalized through Salif Sané before half-time but Ante Rebic secured all three points for Frankfurt with a late winner.
Stuttgart 2-1 Cologne
For the first time in 20 years, Stuttgart beat Cologne at home in the Bundesliga. Anastasios Donis put the hosts ahead in the first half, finishing off a pass from Andreas Beck, before Dominik Heintz equalized spectacularly for the visitors. Late Cologne penalty claims were controversially rejected by the VAR before Chadrac Akolo (above, shirtless) scored a stoppage time winner for Stuttgart.
Mainz 3-2 Hamburg
It's now six games without a win for Hamburg after they slipped to their fifth defeat of the season away at Mainz. They fell behind early to an Alexandru Maxim strike but were level soon after thanks to Walace. Two goals in six second half minutes (Stefan Bell and Danny Latza) put Mainz 3-1 up, rendering Sejad Salihovic's late penalty little more than consolation.
