Fans hoping for a thrilling finale between Djokovic and Rafael Nadal in Doha instead got a demonstration of just how dominant the former is at the moment. Djokovic strolled to victory in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. The match took a mere one hour and 13 minutes.
The victory tipped the head-to-head record between the two Grand Slam winners in the Serb's favor. More importantly, it moved Djokovic level with André Agassi for the ninth most titles won in the Open era.
Against Nadal, the Serb produced 30 winners, engineered seven break points and faced only one himself, which he saved.
"I played pretty much perfect tennis today from the very beginning - I managed to get every shot the way I wanted," the world number one said after the final. "The way I played today gives me great satisfaction."
"I played against a player who did everything perfect," Nadal said. "I know nobody playing tennis like this ever. Since I know this sport I never saw somebody playing at this level."
With the win that Djokovic maintains his momentum from 2015, when he won three of tennis' four majors. It was the Serb's sixteenth consecutive final. Djokovic hasn't lost a tournament since last August.
He will be the prohibitive favorite for the first major of 2016, the Australian Open, which starts on January 18.
