By 2020, Germany wants to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent compared to that of 1990. So far, it has managed just 24 percent. This week, the German government approved a climate action plan. Measures include forcing coal plants to reduce emissions. Meanwhile, new climate solutions are being tested across the country in what’s been dubbed Germany’s 'energy avant-garde'.
