Finance ministers of the Group of 20 (G20) are to meet in Washington later this month, the US Treasury said on Monday.

The gathering, scheduled for April 24, will also involve a separate get-together for finance ministers and central bank chiefs from the smaller club of rich nations, the G7, ahead of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank spring meetings.

It will be US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner's first time hosting a finance ministerial summit. Earlier this month in London, G20 leaders pledged around a trillion dollars for major multilateral institutions to help fight a spreading global economic downturn.

The G20 comprises the G7 members (Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States) plus Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, and the European Union. The EU is represented by the rotating council presidency and the European Central Bank.
