German Foreign Minister Westerwelle: Germany supports Turkey's efforts to join the European Union

German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle says Turkey is a "key country" in finding solutions for the problems in the region. He was speaking in Istanbul on the second day of his first trip to the country as foreign minister. Earlier he said Germany supported Turkey's efforts to join the European Union but said more progress was needed on certain issues.
