News 'not good' for Schumacher
February 4, 2016The latest news concerning the health of racing legend Michael Schumacher is "not good," according to former Ferrari head Luca di Montezemolo.
"I have news and, unfortunately, it is not good," he said at a media event in Milan on Thursday.
Schumacher, a seven-time Formula One drivers' champion, is still receiving intensive treatment at his home in Switzerland following a severe head injury that he suffered in a skiing accident in December 2013 in France.
"Unfortunately, the skiing accident ruined his life," the former Ferrari boss said.
Di Montezemolo, who was the chairman of Ferrari during Schumacher's racing career, rejected speculation in the media that the accident was the driver's own fault.
"It's not true that Michael wasn't careful on his skis," Di Montezemolo said. "When he went off piste, he was always careful. More than anything, on skis he was very careful."
"Life is strange," he added. "He was a fantastic driver and only had one accident with Ferrari in 1999."
Sabine Kehm, Schumacher's manager, declined to comment on di Montezemolo's remarks.
