Well, the conflict in South Ossetia has sparked alarm across the globe ... the United States has called for an immediate ceasefire. And European Union diplomats have also called for an end to the fighting. But attempts at the United Nations to achieve a ceasefire have so far failed. International mediation efforts are continuing.
