Draxler back training in bid to prove fitness for Euros
May 11, 2016Julian Draxler is expected to feature in the final Bundesliga match of the season for Wolfsburg one month after suffering a thigh tear.
22-year old Draxler suffered the injury in the Champions League quarterfinals against Real Madrid. He was able to take part in full team training for the first time since the injury on Wednesday.
"I managed to take complete part in first team training today and I have no pain anymore," said Draxler on Wednesday.
"So I assume that I'll be in the squad on Saturday and will be in top condition by the time the Euros come around.
The German international is hoping to prove his fitness levels to Germany head coach Joachim Löw before he names his provisional European Championship squad on Tuesday.
"When I first suffered the injury, I called Germany coach Joachim Löw, he was worried and wanted to have weekly updates. There has only been positive news to give and he was quickly relieved," Draxler said.
Löw is expected to name up to 31 players on Tuesday, before reducing the squad to 23 on May 30.
Germany start their training camp in Ascona, Switzerland, on May 23 before playing friendlies against Slovakia on May 29 in Augsburg and Hungary in Gelsenkirchen on June 4.
