Kosovo celebrates a new constitution, amid ongoing tension over its legal status - je 15.06.2008 08

Representatives from over 40 countries gather in Kosovo today ... to witness the signing of its new constitution. The event marks a partial transferral of power to the new Kosovan government. Contrary to initial plans however, the United Nations will retain control of the police, customs and justice systems. Four months ago, the ethnic Albanian dominated province broke away from Serbia and declared its independence. The signing ceremony comes amid ongoing tension with Belgrade over the territory´s status.
