Let it snow - again
After glorious sunshine and mild temperatures just a week ago, parts of Germany are gripped by cold and covered in snow once again. The Easter holiday period even proved colder than Christmas.
Munich central station
Winter returned to Bavaria in April, causing accidents and long traffic jams on highways. In the Alps, experts warn that heavy snowfall has increased the danger of avalanches.
Blanketed in white
On Easter Monday, the German National Meteorological Service (DWD) warned drivers of icy roads. At this time of year, "many people have already exchanged their snow tires for regular summer tires," the meteorologists explained.
Canine delight
Unlike the drivers navigating slippery roads in the Taunus region north of Frankfurt, this labrador by the name of Hermann frolicks happily in the cold white stuff that fell overnight on the Grosser Feldberg (878 meters high) mountain.
Freezing fruit flowers
Cold and snow have also returned to the southwestern state of Baden-Württemberg, where fragrant apple blossoms already covered the trees. Farmers hope the cold snap hasn't destroyed fruit crops.
Sometimes it snows in April
In April, people start to buy flowers and perennials for their gardens, trees are green, and fields of bright yellow canola blossoms dot the landscape. This year, residents near the city of Hanover were also caught unawares by low temperatures and snowfall.
