Germany squad announced
October 2, 2015Germany head coach Joachim Löw has called a new face up to his national team squad ahead of the final qualifying matches for Euro 2016, the country's FA (DFB) announced via Twitter on Friday. Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno, 23, is the only new face in the 23-man team.
With no new injury concerns following the wins against Poland and Scotland last month, Leno's call-up (instead of Hannover's Ron-Robert Zieler) is the only change in Löw's squad. Schalke's Ralf Fährmann may be disappointed at missing out, with Marc-Andre ter Stegen of Barcelona preferred as the other back-up to Manuel Neuer alongside Leno.
"Bernd [Leno] has earned this nomination through consistent good work at Bayer Leverkusen and just like Marc-Andre ter Stegen, we have been watching him for some time," said Germany goalkeeping coach Andreas Köpke.
