Germany's coal problem

Germany's reliance on coal to generate electricity is once again under scrutiny as the COP23 climate summit takes place this week in Bonn. Soft and hard coal remain the primary fuel the German national grid relies on to power the nation. This past weekend, more than 10,000 protesters took to the streets of Bonn, the former capital of West Germany, to push for an immediate phase-out of coal.
