Mario Götze injured
October 9, 2015Mario Götze has been ruled out for between ten and twelve weeks after suffering an adductor muscle injury.
The Bayern Munich midfielder suffered the injury in a challenge with Republic of Ireland opponent James McCarthy in the 35th minute of Thursday evening's European Championship qualifier loss in Dublin.
"Mario has picked up a tendon rupture in his thigh after making a lunge," said Germany team doctor Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt.
"It's annoying for us and a real shame for him," said Joachim Löw. "We wish him a good and speedy recovery and I'm sure he will be able to pick up his form again once he returns.
The 23-year old traveled with his teammates to Leipzig, ahead of Sunday's final qualifcation match against Georgia, but has now been ruled out after medical tests.
Götze has scored four goals in 11 appearances this season for Bayern Munich and had started all but one of the international matches played since Germany won the World Cup last July.
In the final qualifcation match against Georgia on Sunday, Joachim Löw's team need just a point to confirm a spot at next year's tournament in France. Poland and the Republic of Ireland, who face each other in the final round of matches, are both a point behind Germany in second and third respectively.
