Matchday 15 in pictures
Bayern Munich will top the table over Christmas for the 20th time after their win. Meanwhile, Schalke and Dortmund suffered tough defeats with BVB dropping into the relegation playoff spot.
Comfortable Bayern
Bayern Munich might have been slow to start against surprise-package Augsburg, but after a flurry of goals, stormed to a 4-0 win. Augsburg were brave and kept Bayern at bay throughout the opening passages of play. In the end though, they had to admit they were second best.
Dortmund suffer another defeat
Jürgen Klopp doesn't know what to think on the sidelines at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. Borussia Dortmund suffered a 1-0 defeat to Hertha BSC, which is the club's ninth league defeat this season. The crisis appears ever-present and true solutions appear distant.
Cologne spoil the party
Cologne didn't put in a remarkable appearance against Schalke, but were clinical enough in front of goal. Anthony Ujah (second from the right) made it 1-0 with his team's first shot of the game. Peter Stöger's men added another to run out 2-1 winners in their first win in three weeks.
Another goal-rich thriller in Bremen
Despite scoring his first Bundesliga goal, Melvyn Lorenzen couldn't celebrate it fully as his Werder team drew 3-3 with Hannover. The 20-year-old had given Werder the lead after going a goal down, but further goals were exchanged before the full-time whistle.
Relegation battle in Freiburg
It was tough viewing for those in Freiburg's stadium on Saturday. In a typical game between two sides battling against relegation, there were a lot of tackles, few chances and, naturally, no goals. Freiburg's Vladimir Darida missed the best chance of the game - Jaroslav Drobny saving his first-minute penalty.
Hoffenheim win marred by Süle injury
Despite winning 3-2, Hoffenheim's evening was spoiled by an injury to a promising central defender Niklas Süle. The 19-year-old suffered a ligament tear in his left knee and was stretchered off in the first half. Roberto Firmino struck the winner as Hoffenheim made their third lead of the game count.
Mainz miss the chance to win at home
In a game that got bogged down in midfield for long periods, Mainz will be disappointed not to have gained more than a point at home against Stuttgart. Johannes Geis' first-half free kick was cancelled out by a fluke goal from Filip Kostic 20 minutes before the end of the game.
Plucky Paderborn
Lukas Kruse turned in a sensational performance to help Paderborn survive a barrage of shots from Wolfsburg. The Wolves were ahead through an own goal, but the visitors leveled when Meha scored a penalty. After that, the kitchen sink was thrown at the Wolves, but Paderborn stood firm: Kitchen sink-surviving Kruse.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained
A point doesn't really help either Leverkusen or Gladbach in the race for a spot in next season's Champions League. Hakan Calhanoglu's early goal was cancelled out by Roel Brouwers' first league goal since 2012. Nobody was able to pick up the full points in the end and they occupy 3rd and 4th.
