Strong start for Schumacher's son
April 26, 2015Mick Schumacher, the son of seven-time Formula One world champion Michael, has started his Formula 4 career with a debut win in Oschersleben.
Speaking after the race, Schumacher said that "he was very happy."
"I couldn't have imagined my first weekend of racing going better. We had a good start, because I had fresh tires and from then on it went well, it just got tight at the end."
Schumacher was able to benefit from a safety car coming onto the track at the end of the race, before cruising comfortably to victory.
A strong weekend
On Saturday, the 16-year old had already put in a strong showing in his debut race, finishing ninth for his team Van Amersfoort Racing, after starting from 19th on the grid. In Sunday's early race he finished 12th.
With three of the season's 24 races now completed, he is now sitting in fifth position in the Formula 4 driver's rankings with 27 points.
Last season Schumacher came second in the World, European and German kart championships while driving as "Mick Junior" to protect his privacy.
Mick's father Michael, the most successful driver in the history of Formula One, continues to recover from the head injuries he suffered in a skiing accident in December 2013. The German is currently undergoing private treatment at the Schumacher family home in Switzerland.
