"Musica Maestra" presents a fresh, contemporary take on classical music, with the first web-videos being published on July 15 on DW's English and Spanish Facebook pages, DW Culture and DW Español. Starting in October, the project will be broadcast on DW's television programs, both in English and Spanish.

Alondra de la Parra, a renowned conductor from Mexico, invites viewers behind the scenes of the music world as she speaks with distinguished musicians from around the world.

Alondra de la Parra represents a new type of classical musician, said DW's Director General Peter Limbourg.

"She thinks according to the new rule of modern execution of classical music and doesn't shy away from other genres. She uses social media like a pop star and makes great music accessible to many young people. And she is a great conductor in a male-dominated field."

De la Parra has made a name for herself with her international concert appearances and her commitment to Latin American composers. Since the beginning of 2017, she has been the music director of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

Among the highlights of the 2016/2017 season were her debut at the Beethovenfest Bonn and her performances with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.

Alondra de la Parra was born in 1980 in New York and moved with her parents to Mexico as a young child. After studying in New York City, she founded the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas in 2004 with the aim of raising awareness of Latin American composers and their music.
