The winners of this year's Right Livelihood Awards have been announced in Sweden. The awards are often called the "Alternative Nobel Prize" and recognize individuals who are extensively involved in promoting human rights, peace and a cleaner environment. The four winners this year are an Indian couple whose non-profit organization helps the country's poorest people acquire land and build houses. Amy Goodman who founded the daily grassroots TV and radio news show "Democracy Now" and Asha Haji, a peace activist in Somalia. And the fourth prize went to the German-based doctor Monika HOW-ser and her organization "Medica Mondial", which helps victims of rape in war zones.
