Planet Berlin: Unique pieces from the butcher
In an old butcher's shop in Schöneberg, Unique Factory's designers restore old furniture classics.
Born to create
The highly skilled interior designer and upholsterer Mirza Music-Zander was born into his trade, having been raised in a tailor family. "Creating something with your own hands does not make work but joy," he says. For his partner Mensud Bjelosevic, "design is nothing but great freedom."
Good things take time
The name Unique Factory says it all: With no mass produced products on offer, the focus is on individual expression. No time is spared to attain perfection for each piece, but this comes at a price that's not just monetary. Customers will need patience, which will be rewarded if they are searching for something truly unique.
Reworked classics
Unique Factory combines old and new. The interior decorators work to restore preloved classics for customers via a complete service that includes upholstery and furniture tailoring — they also make new creations. The Bosnian designers often work with private individuals, but also furnish offices, restaurants and hotels.
Heritage showroom
The two managing directors found the ideal place on Potsdamer Strasse for their furniture factory founded in 2010: a former butcher shop. Part of a building complex listed under heritage protection, the showroom perfectly complements the classic furniture, which attains a new splendor in the space.
