Did VW destroy evidence?

State prosecutor Klaus Ziehe said Thursday they recently launched a probe into a VW employee suspected of suppressing documents and obstructing their investigation into the company's emissions cheating scandal by asking colleagues "to get rid of data, which was partially carried out."
But Ziehe expressed hope that the destroyed evidence wouldn't represent any difficulties for the on-going investigation into Volkswagen’s deception.
"We’re currently assuming that we haven’t suffered any relevant setbacks, " he said.
He also said the volume of information lost would be minimal, and that some of it could be recovered.
German authorities are still trying to figure out who was behind the pollution cheating scandal at Volkswagen, after it emerged last September that Europe’s biggest car maker had outfitted at least 11 million of its diesel cars with so-called defeat devices worldwide.
