World AIDS Day

There are fewer children born with HIV, according to a recent UNAIDS report. But the HIV/AIDS continues to pose a problem in the developing world. DW looks at some of the latest developments.

People around the world will mark World AIDS Day on December 1st. The day is not just about remembering the millions of people who have died from the disease, it also draws attention to the fact that there is neither a cure for AIDS nor a vaccine against HIV - the virus that causes AIDS.

DW looks at the latest developments in HIV/AIDS related research - ranging from potential vaccine to the mapping of the genetic lineage of a bacteria strain that is deadly for AIDS patients in southern Africa. And we also look at the lives of AIDS patients and orphans.
