New documentary follows 'Rammstein in Amerika'

The documentary "Rammstein in Amerika" starts off in 1988 on a beach of the Baltic Sea in East Germany, where unknown musicians were still holding daytime jobs or planning their escape to West Berlin.

Their way to the top was a long and sometimes painful one - but now Rammstein is one of the most famous German bands worldwide. The 122-minute film focuses on how the band became successful in the US.

In a trailer for the film, drummer Christoph Schneider remembers how naïve they were before their first trip to the US: "We only knew America through films and thought it was a dangerous country."

"Rammstein in Amerika" highlights some of the outstanding events in the rockers' career in the US.

Rammstein worked with David Lynch on the soundtrack of his 1997 film "Lost Highway" and two members of the band were arrested in 1999 for "lewd and lascivious behavior" in Massachusetts. The documentary also covers how the September 11 attacks in 2001 affected the band.

Film director Hannes Rossacher interviewed a series of stars such Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Moby, CJ Ramone, Steven Tyler (Aerosmith), Iggy Pop, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley from KISS, Wes Borland (Limp Bizkit), Marilyn Manson and many more. They share their crazy backstage stories with Rammstein or pay tribute to the band.

The two-disc DVD/Blueray package, released worldwide on September 25, also includes the band's US comeback concert at the Madison Square Garden in 2010.
