Schwere Entscheidung - Der CDU-Parteitag ist gegen Gentests an Embryonen
Martin BrandtNovember 16, 2010
#Here in Germany, the governing conservative Christian Democratic Union has narrowly voted in favour of a ban on preimplantation genetic diagnosis. The procedure is used to screen test-tube embryos before they are implanted in the womb. Some critics say it will lead to designer babies - others oppose it on religious grounds - while supporters say it simply protects women and their children from miscarriages and hereditary disease. The issue is particularly sensitive in Germany because of the Nazi past, when tests and experiments were carried out on human beings in the name of racial or genetic purity.
