Hemma JägerAugust 7, 2011

Think of the Black Forest and you might think of bright red ladies' hats topped with pom-poms, cuckoo clocks and Black Forest gateau. Steeped in history, the Black Forest in south-western Germany attracts more than 6 million visitors a year.

Germany Today is exploring the Northern Black Forest between Baden-Baden and Baiersbronn. We get close to mother nature on a hike through the village of Forbach, and go rafting on the Murg River, one of the most beautiful stretches of water in Germany. We'll take a look at some traditional crafts here, from making clocks to bollen hats, and taste some of the local delicacies. The state of Baden-Württemberg is known for its cuisine, and the Black Forest is no different. It's home to two of Germany's best restaurants, both in the village of Baiersbronn. Follow Baierbronn's "walker's paradise" and you can dine in a hiker's cabin and feast on traditional Black Forest specialties.
