The EU says European carmakers must cut harmful emissions from new vehicles by 18 percent within the next six years. The decision comes after a long battle between environmentalists and the automotive industry. Under the plan, carbon dioxide emissions from new cars will be cut from 160 to120 grams per kilometer by 2015.
