Schleswig is home to Schleswig-Holstein’s state museum with exhibits dating back as far as the Viking era as well as modern art. The castle museum also has magnificent gardens. Nearby you will also find Haithabu, an important Viking settlement some 1000 years ago. Arnis is a small, idyllic town in the vicinity that dates back to 1667. Other tourist attractions include fishermen’s villages like Sieseby and Holm. The region has a decidedly Danish atmosphere, after all Schleswig-Holstein used to be part of Denmark.
