EU in Bosnia
November 21, 2008The resolution was approved unanimously late Thursday, Nov. 20, and welcomed the EU's intention to retain its 2,100-strong military presence, known as EUFOR, in the country.
The Council also reminded Bosnia's Muslims, Serbs and Croats that it is primarily their responsibility to implement the Dayton peace agreement that ended the 1992-1995 war.
The continued willingness of the international community and major donors to assume the political, military and economic burden of implementation and reconstruction efforts will be determined by the compliance and active participation by all the authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina in implementing the peace agreement and rebuilding a civil society," the Council said.
It also welcomed Bosnia's signing of a pre-membership agreement with the EU in June.
