The Schei Inlet is around 42 kilometers (26 miles) long and stretches from the town of Schleswig to the estuary on the coast.

Schleswig is home to Schleswig-Holstein’s state museum with exhibits dating back as far as the Viking era, as well as modern art. The castle museum also has magnificent gardens. Nearby, visitors will also find Haithabu, which was an important Viking settlement some 1,000 years ago.

Arnis is a small, idyllic town in the vicinity that dates back to 1667. Other tourist attractions include fishermen’s villages like Sieseby and Holm. The region has a decidedly Danish atmosphere - after all, Schleswig-Holstein used to be part of Denmark.
