Ever since the Nov. 21 Ukrainian presidential run-off, the country has been in an uproar. While pro-Russian Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych, backed by election officials, insisted he had won the ballot, Western-leaning oppositional candidate Viktor Yushchenko declared the results fraudulent and refused to accept defeat.
For days a bitter stand-off gripped the country as Yushchenko supporters took to the streets of the capital in protest. Ukraine's Supreme Court finally ended the impasse on Dec. 3, ruling that the contested presidential elections were tainted by fraud and must be repeated.
DW-WORLD has put together a collection of articles documenting the events leading up to the repeat of the election on Dec. 26.
