Volkswagen throw doubt over future football investment

In the aftermath of Volkswagen's emissions scandal, new VW boss Matthias Müller wants to take a closer look at the company's investment in football.
"We will leave no stone unturned, and that too [the company's investment in football] will also be inspected," Müller was quoted as saying in Wednesday's edition of German newspaper "Frankfurter Allgemeinen Zeitung".
Defending German Cup winners Wolfsburg have benefited from Volkswagen's finances as a subsidiary, but there are others involved. A further subsidiary, Audi, is partners with fellow Bundesliga clubs Bayern Munich and Ingolstadt.
Wolfsburg's sporting director Klaus Allofs recently stated the club was not expecting any negative impacts from the scandal. In regards to the entire Volkswagen company, the financial investment in Wolfsburg remains minimal: "Wolfsburg is of more value to Volkswagen than is invested in the club," said Allofs to German newspaper "Die Zeit".
