In many parts of the world, women play a crucial role in the fight against climate change – especially in developing countries. This week on Global Ideas, we take a look at two projects that support and champion women. Reporter Joanna Gottschalk meets young female entrepreneurs in Uganda who want to replace old, polluting kerosene lamps with eco-friendly solar ones, and hoping to convince more women to join the cause. In Burkina Faso too, a group of women has begun collecting old plastic bags from the streets, washing them and using them to make clothing. The idea has been a success with the trendy recycled outfits now worn by women around the world.
