The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and his wife Kate, are "very pleased" to announce that they are expecting their second child, Kensington Palace said on Monday.

The news comes less than 14 months after the couple's first child, Prince George Alexander Louis, was born amid a huge international media frenzy.

In a separate statement, Buckingham Palace said, "The Queen and members of both families are delighted with the news that their royal highnesses are expecting their second child."

A royal spokesman said the 32-year-old duchess was suffering from acute morning sickness and was being treated by doctors at Kensington Palace in central London. The same condition caused her to be hospitalized when she was pregnant with George.

Prince William is second in line to the British throne, followed by George in third.

British Prime Minister David Cameron was among the first to congratulate the couple on Twitter:

There were no details on when the baby was due.
